earthy Cannabis Strains

what is earthy cannabis?

Earthy cannabis is a close cousin of gassy cannabis: the same funky, woodsy, loamy smells that ground the sharper diesel notes are brought to the front in these cultivars. Fans of earthy cannabis often describe the forest-focused notes you might expect from the name—soil, mushroom dankness, grass, cedar, cloves—as well as the smells you might associate with a Dutch cafe: coffee, chocolate, and hash.

Character profile

The main terpenes to look for in an earthy profile are terpinene, humelene, and myrcene. You can also look for pinene and caryophyllene for some of those warm spices and sharp evergreen aromas, even though the same terpenes will also show up in gassy cultivars.

what’s the high like?

In general, earthy cannabis tends to have a grounding, relaxing effect, which can tip into full-on sedation with higher THC concentrations or lower tolerances in consumers. Myrcene has been linked to the “couch lock” effect; this can be good, if you’re looking for anxiety management or pain relief—or bad, if you’re looking for a more energetic experience. With the right levels dialed in (based on the consumer’s experience and physiology) earthy cannabis can provide a pleasantly subdued experience.
